Open the door to the right sound
The door unlocks. A teenager tries to sneak in, attempting to conceal the creaking of the door with a grimace. The wind sucks at the door and knocks it shut. The father, snoring on the couch stirs. After a few hearty grunts, he falls back into slumber. The teenager locks the door and continues his journey, up the stairs and into his bedroom, where he encounters another door. He turns the metal handle and slowly opens it. It drags along the wooden floor until its finally wide enough for him to squeeze in.
Doors are rich sources of sounds. Locking, unlocking, slamming, knocking, dragging, and so on, they produce their own unique sets of sounds that can be difficult to catch on the regular mic of a camera. But no worries, we have you covered.
About the sounds
Machines and construction were the theme of our last upload. With this go around, we decided to provide you with the rich and detailed sounds of doors and gates. Our sound engineers went into all our best rooms for our best doors to get you the best sounds. They also crept around attics, basements, dungeons, sewers, and more so that you can have a proper wide variety of door and gate sounds at your fingertips.
This pack includes 500 door sounds and everything connected to doors. That means hard knocks, soft knocks, creaking, closing, dragging doors, closing and opening, unlocking them, gate handles, closing gates, squeaking gates, opening sliding doors, closing sliding doors, opening garage doors, locking doors, unlocking them and more.
What can you use these sounds for?
Obviously to cover all your door sounds! Doors are about as difficult as footsteps, where the camera never gets the recording quite right. Foley here is very important to provide just the right sound and right volume of that sound.
It is of course, useful for layering, as knocking on doors makes for some terrific attacks for percussion instruments and the tails can be used for interesting reverbs on your convolution device.
Stay tuned for the next upload when we’ll be bringing to you more mechanical sound effects (ticks and tocks)!
We release new sound effects for Smartsound Cloud every two weeks. Sign up for our newsletter to keep up to date with each new release.
