Put some elbow into that jar opening sound

A close-up of a fat jar, the reflection of the bright fluorescent lights curving around the edge. Dry hands with a few stray cuticles creep over the top of the lid, followed by a twist and a pop. The camera pulls back revealing a middle-aged man making raspberry jelly sandwiches. After the work is done, he pours a strong cup of black coffee, takes a loud and irksome sip and BOOM the wall blows in as a classic car comes crashing through, furniture splitting and sliding across the room, bottles smashing, all mayhem ensues.

A young, brown-haired woman sits at a desk, racing through codes flashing across the brightly glowing computer screen. When her eyebrows furrow over her blue eyes, it’s clear she’s found something. Time is short. She’s got to get a message down fast. She opens a drawer, searches through all manner of debris – coins, keys, papers – finds a blank paper. She pulls it out and starts scratching across its top with a green ballpoint pen.

There are many scenarios where the characters are doing work around the house. Even during a simple at-home conversation, a director might decide it’s too boring and one character needs to be doing something. Housework is always an easy go-to, from cleaning to chopping vegetables. And no matter the movie or series, there are always things going on at a house that require some accompanying Foley to truly capture the character of the scene.

Smartsound Cloud has all the household sounds you could ever need. We continue to expand our inventory of high-quality, recorded, royalty-free sound effects every two weeks. Our subscription service just keeps getting better and better.

About the sounds

The last upload of 500 mechanical sounds ticked and whirred on through. Workshops, clocksmiths, day cares, the sound designers went to all kinds of places to find their material. This time hunting objects was pretty easy. Wake up, get out of bed, oh, that’s something to record right there! That naturally didn’t end their commute, as now they had to bring that object to the studio to get a properly dry recording with top-notch equipment.

This latest pack has got all the household goods you could need. And if this one doesn’t, the one from last year does. 😉 Here we present: bottles (opening, closing, hitting), food (lemon squeeze, crunching lettuce, ripping cabbage), glass jars (hits, open, close), coffee (pouring beans, opening machine, stirring cup), iron steaming up, and more!

Like all our uploads, this one is full of high-quality recordings that can find use in everyday projects.

What can you use these sounds for?

The immediate thing that comes to mind, besides home scenes in movies and series, are vlogs. Especially cut scenes and intro scenes for cooking and lifestyle vlogs. So many intros and cuts revolve around actions relating to foods and households objects. Really make those actions come to life in a crisp and fresh way with the sound effects this upload provides.

Not only can these stock househould sound effects be used for vlogs, movies, and series, but they also make great for layers, especially the food sounds. Need something for bone crunching? Almost every sound designer’s go-to sound is the lettuce or cabbage crunch. It works great to simulate a high-powered crack of a bone. It’s a bit too good, and much crispier than the real thing, but sounds great in hi-fi. By the way, for a high-powered program to make intricate and interesting layers, check out BOOM Library’s Soundweaver.

Stay tuned for the next upload when we’ll be bringing you a selection of more mechanicals!
