More mechanical sound effects

From suitcases to door latches, unlock these sounds for added realism in your project

The woman looks up at the door as the knob turns. Luckily, it was locked, which gave her a few more moments to prepare. She closed the suitcase, snapped the latches, and ran out the back door before the assailants could get the front door open. And then for them it was too late, her trap had been set. The metal mechanism clicked and the explosion went off. She was safe… for now.

Mechanical sounds are common in movies and videos, especially in suspense scenes when every little click and tick seem to make a difference. Through the director’s cinematic wizardry, the audience all becomes hyper aware of everything that is happening on screen, with every sound brought and delivered in such a crisp detail that they can’t help to grip the edge of their arm rests.

Smartsound Cloud has all the mechanical sounds you could ever need, with fresh uploads every few months to cover any grounds we may have missed or to deliver to you just the right timbre. We continue to expand our inventory of high-quality, recorded, royalty-free sound effects every two weeks. Our subscription service just keeps getting better and better.

About the sounds

We swept through 500 household sounds on the last upload, cleaning house with our high-quality kitchen and furniture sound effects. Now we went turning levers and handles and getting all the clicks, creaks, and squeaks that we could manage. Our recordist’s grandma no doubt was scratching her head, wondering where she went wrong as her granddaughter pounded about the apartment banging and snapping every little thing everywhere.

In this latest upload, we managed to capture plastic ratchet spins, metal mechanism clicks, knob turns, metallic handle swings, button snaps, boxcutter sounds, and so much more.

Like all our uploads, this one is full of high-quality recordings that can be used in everyday projects.

What can you use these sounds for?

Mechanical sounds must be highlighted with top level recording and attention to bring up the proper realism and tension. The first use for this upload that comes to mind is for travel vlogs and podcasts. Packing the bag, snapping closed the suitcase, opening the door, and walking out. A perfect image especially for a vlog intro.

Of course, these sounds are not just for vlogs. Movies, videos, and more all need good mechanical sound effects. And on top of that, they are great for layering, whether you are creating some action sequence or music, these will offer some good flavor to sprinkle in. Be sure to check out BOOM Library’s Soundweaver for some easy layering.

Stay tuned for the next upload when we’ll be bringing you a selection of go kart and sports car sounds!

We release new sound effects for Smartsound Cloud every two weeks, bringing you continuously more value for your subscription. Sign up for our newsletter to keep up to date with each new release.
