Sound effects of vintage cars

A collection of mechanical sounds of old, broken down cars.

The battered bruiser of an old dump truck steaming uphill with a loud full of coal, or a sleek black classic car barreling down a broken road from an array of block apartments. Old scenes are full of chugging and glugging old cars, some iconic and still some others in regular vintage use.

These tankers and KGB-mobiles could easily substitute for any growling engine or slamming door, and there’s nothing else more iconic than a black smoke-spewing Soviet automotive. For any show covering the current tragic news to podcasts on wine and brandy, these auto sounds are no doubt necessary for that added layer of realism.

About the sounds

It’s an entire 500 sound effects upload of vintage Soviet car related sounds. The library was brought to fruition by our Tbilisi, Georgia-based team of sound engineers. We covered these cars from headlight to rear light with high-quality microphones for a top-notch audio representation. Autos in this latest pack include cars such as the GAZ-24 Volga, Moskvitch 412, VAZ-2106 Jiguli, and the Zaporozhets-968; off-road cars like the UAZ-69, UAZ 31514, and UAZ-469; and construction and big rig vehicles like the GAZ-51 and KAMAZ-5511.

These vintage car sound effects focus more on the mechanical aspects of the vehicles, like the handbrake movements, hood closing and opening, wipers, horns, glove boxes and more.

What can you use these sounds for?

There are all the obvious uses. Any Soviet history show, any modern show about traveling through the former Eastern bloc countries—like the ancient wine country of Georgia—or coverage on the current, tragic invasion of Ukraine. Most of these sounds, like those of wipers and opening the doors, can be used for any car, practically speaking. Let’s also not forget how sounds like car doors or pushing on pedals can add to an additional layer for impacts and percussion.

We release new sound effects for Smartsound Cloud every two weeks. Sign up for our newsletter to keep up to date with each new release.
