Vroom vroom! Engines revving and idling, turn signals clicking, and more – the unmistakable sounds of transportation that we hear every day but often overlook. Have you ever stopped to really listen to them? These seemingly mundane sounds of life outside of the house are often what has enabled deep immersion in so many scenes of film, video, podcast, and game.
Just think about any game with a car involved, like in a car theft or chase scene. From the rattling of keys, to the roar of engines as the cars whip past the view – those sound effects are what make your heart race and knuckles turn white from gripping the armrests too tightly.
Or what about hilarious viral video of someone failing their driving test spectacularly? The comedic timing is perfectly punctuated by the sound of crunching metal as they back into a pole. Without those Foley sounds of the car door opening, the turn signal clicking, and the eventual crash, it just wouldn’t be as lol-worthy. And though we didn’t add crashing sounds in this update, you can already find them in our vast sound effects library.
Even podcasts can get in on the action using sounds from this update, like the ambient car sounds to set the scene and make the listener feel like they’re sitting right there in traffic on a busy city street with the host. Those familiar noises of buses rumbling past, car horns blaring, and engines idling at a red light create an immersive, realistic atmosphere.
About the Sounds
Our new update captures the gritty, visceral audio of transportation in all its forms, from trains, cars, buses and trucks. We’ve got the essentials like revving engines, idling motors, door sounds, car and train drive bys, and honking horns – done with common autos rather than outsized muscle cars. But we didn’t stop there! This library also includes incredibly detailed Foley recordings of every little noise you’d hear inside a car – the click of a glove box, the whirring of the air conditioning, and seat belt snaps for safety.
To get these sounds, our team of audio experts went straight to the source. They spent days crouched on city sidewalks with meters of XLR cables snaking across the pavement to mic up passing cars, buses, and motorcycles.
