Whoosh into the action with these quality FX
It’s the sound of an arrow slicing through the air… clothing whirling in the wind… a jet hurtling through a canyon at incredible speeds… the classic transition sound for music and film.
In the realm of sound design, there exists a secret weapon that can instantly elevate a scene or add a touch of magic to any audio production. It effortlessly bridges scenes, heightens impacts, and propels the narrative forward. The name? The whoosh.
At first, the whoosh might seem simple – a fleeting rush of sound. But beneath its surface lies an intricate dance of frequencies, carefully orchestrated to evoke movement, anticipation, and wonder. Whether you’re a filmmaker, a game developer, or a music producer, understanding the whoosh unlocks a world of sonic possibilities.
Let’s unravel the sonic threads, explore the whoosh and all the sound possibilities our latest app sound update brings to the table.
The whoosh
Whooshes are sound effects that create a sense of motion, transition, or impact. They’re commonly used to enhance scenes with object throws, vehicle pass-bys, fight scenes, and so on. They’re created by recording or synthesizing sounds that have a fast and (usually) smooth change in frequency, like wind, air, swishes, or flangers. They can add depth and realism to the audio experience, making it more immersive for the listener.

Finzar here talks about how to make a variety of transitions in Premiere Pro. But I want you to listen to the sound effects he uses. Do you hear all those whooshes?! And we’ve got some a huge amount of similar ones you can use in all the same scenarios.
About the sounds
Our new stock FX upload features 500 newly recorded and designed whooshes, from the realistic to the otherworldly.
The recorded whooshes were captured in our Foley studio using a variety of objects, including bungee strips, cables, arrows, bamboo sticks, pipes, and cloth. The result are realistic, organic sounds that can be used to create a variety of effects.
In addition to our recorded whooshes, we’ve also created a number of designed whooshes using synthesizers and other electronic instruments. These whooshes are more stylized and abstract, and they can be used to create a variety of unique effects. They range from more sci-fi, and cinematic sounds to logo reveals and flybys.
What can these whooshes be used for?
Whoosh sounds can be used in a variety of projects, including:
